Food Roots

Emmy-Award winning restaurateur Billy Dec travels through his mother's native 7641 islands of the Philippines to learn recipes from his last living elders. He encounters culinary and cultural treasures as well as family secrets.

Viewers accompany Dec by plane, boat, motorcycle, jeepney, and on foot as he searches through bustling cities, tiny remote islands, and hidden cloud-scraping mountain villages for his family members. Through the ups and downs of the trip, Dec gains a more direct understanding of his history, a deeper appreciation for how food has shaped his family's view of the world - and a tattoo expressing his ancestral connections, inked by a 103-year-old tribal tattoo master.

We’re so close to finishing this film, but we need your help to accomplish our goal of a 2026 premiere!
